Veriftools: what should you ask before trusting a result?

A good comparison starts with the decision you need to make and the evidence a tool can actually provide.

If you are looking at Veriftools, begin with a narrow question: what result do you need? A file may be clear enough to read while its contents remain unconfirmed. A photograph can show a document without proving who holds it. These are different checks, and the difference matters when the outcome affects someone.

This page does not test or rate the current Veriftools service. Use the questions below when reading its own documentation or comparing it with another provider. For a general explanation of verification language, see Verif Tools.

Before you choose

Ask the provider to name the check.

What goes in? Find out what information the tool receives and whether you have permission to submit it.

What comes out? Ask what each result means. "Readable" and "authentic" should not be treated as the same verdict.

What can go wrong? Look for an explanation of uncertain results, missing sources, and common failure cases.

Who can challenge it? A person affected by a consequential result needs a clear route to review.
